How long can you last when the zombies grow stronger every fifth day, and your stickman starves, freezes, and dehydrates the moment you stop managing him?
Mine Survival is a 2D sandbox survival game from indie developer WildSoda (KyoungA Jung), running on Android 7.0 and up with a 768 MB RAM minimum. The loop splits the clock in two: you gather wood, stone, ore, and food during the day, then defend a walled base against zombies at night. On top of that you juggle four survival meters at once, and the threat ramps on a fixed day counter, so a base that holds on day 5 can collapse on day 20. The day-and-night loop: gather, build, then survive the night
Each in-game day is a short prep window before a forced night defense. The screen shows a yellow bar for daytime length and a blue bar for night, with an arrow marking the current time, so you always know how long you have left to gather.
The early game follows a tight order. You punch trees with bare hands for wood, build a Worktable, then craft a wood axe and wood pickaxe before the first zombies arrive. From there you mine stone and ore to climb the tool tiers and start walling off a base. Picking a spawn near plenty of water matters, because that water source feeds farming and keeps your thirst meter manageable without long, risky trips.
Once night falls, gathering stops and defense begins. Zombies path toward your base from several directions, and your walls, snares, and towers do the work while you patch damage and manage stats. Survive the night and the cycle resets, with each successive night harder than the last.
Four survival meters you cannot ignore: hunger, thirst, temperature, waste
Mine Survival tracks several status bars at the same time, and letting any of them bottom out leads to an early death. They are the reason the game leans more toward management than pure building.
- Hunger: drains steadily, refilled by hunting animals and farming fruit. Neglecting it is one of the most common causes of a first-week wipe.
- Thirst (water): depletes over time and is why a water-rich spawn is the standard early advice, since it supports both drinking and farms.
- Body temperature: matters most in the snow biome, where staying warm with the right tops and shoes keeps the bar from freezing out.
- Waste (poo) management: an unusual meter that doubles as a resource, since poo can be used to turn planted seeds into farms.
Gear ties directly into these meters. Shoes are widely treated as the number-one crafting priority, with players pushing toward diamond shoes early, and tops gain value in the mid-game for temperature control. Farming closes the loop: hit a squirrel to drop a random seed, plant it, then apply water or poo to grow a renewable fruit farm instead of relying on dangerous hunts.
Crafting tools and base defenses: walls, snares, towers, and cannons
Crafting splits into tools for gathering and structures for defense. Tools climb a clear tier ladder, while defenses are placed around the base and upgraded over multiple steps.
On the tool side, you start with a wood axe and wood pickaxe, then work up through stone and metal tiers to specialist gear. The Hammer and Diamond Hammer, added back in version 1.4.0, let you collect placed buildings faster, which helps when you relocate or expand a settlement. Caves later hand you a Drill for mining harder ores.
Defenses are where the night is won or lost:
- Walls and doors: the first line that funnels zombies into kill zones, upgradeable in steps for more durability.
- Snares (traps): cheap early-game tools, often made with bone, that stall enemies and double as hunting aids.
- Attack towers: auto-firing structures that handle the bulk of night damage so you can focus on repairs.
- Cannons and power towers: heavier, late-tier defenses for the larger hordes that arrive past day 10.
The 2.0 update added upgrade steps for walls, doors, attack towers, cannons, traps, and power towers, so each defensive piece scales with you rather than being a one-time build.
Five difficulty modes, biomes, and the altar boss keys
Mine Survival is built around five difficulty modes that gate progression: Easy, Normal, Hard, Master, and Hell. A custom game option, added in 2.1, lets you tweak day length, ore counts, monster presence, and stat decay outside the ranked modes.
You do not simply select Hell from the start. To unlock the next mode, you build an altar, summon a boss, and beat it for a key. The early boss is a pirate boar with roughly one native’s worth of stamina and a 10-minute time limit, droppable with a tower and sword skills. Each mode also changes the map, with biomes spanning grassland, desert, and the snow zone where temperature management bites hardest.
The 2.0 update opened up Caves, a separate underground layer with new ores, new monsters, and the Drill, plus rare encounters like the Fever Zone and the Unicorn. That update also added 30 functional pets, while a dragon pet sits behind the in-game bank and rubies rather than normal crafting.
Zombie types and the day-by-day difficulty spike
The night roster grows on a schedule, which is what gives the game its tension. Standard Green zombies start the assault, then tougher variants join at fixed milestones.
Gray and Bulky zombies enter around day 10, and Stony zombies appear from day 20 on days that are multiples of five. Beyond those, the game throws Bomber-type zombies, plus non-zombie threats like wolves, wolf cubs, giant spiders, and natives depending on the mode. Easy mode swaps zombies for weaker Experimental Rats and Moles, which hit fast but go down quickly.
Two in-game signals warn you of spikes. On days 5, 10, 15, and 20, more zombies flock together for bigger waves. On the mornings of days 6, 11, 16, and 21, a wolf cry plays and an “I feel more powerful” message appears, marking a permanent jump in zombie strength. Reading those signals and upgrading defenses ahead of them is the core skill the late game tests.

Version 2.9.4 is a stability fix on top of the larger 2.9.0 content cycle, which is where the recent gameplay additions landed. The combined changes from the official store changelog:
- Environmental hazards bug fix (2.9.4): resolves an issue where environmental hazards could spawn in the wrong zone.
- Emergency Escape (2.9.0): a new mechanic added alongside the environmental hazards system.
